We need Concessions stand help at the Ladies March 7th match vs Pflugerville Connally. We have more than enough families so that the same people should not have to volunteer every time. We’d like to have Varsity parents in the stand during the JV match and JV parents in the stand during the Varsity match.
Currently nobody has signed up for either shift. We have 5-7pm and 7-9pm shifts. You can sign up here.
If we have no volunteers we will not open the Concessions stand.
The start time of the Varsity Ladies’ match vs Cameron Yoe on Friday February 29th has been changed to 5:30pm. The pitch is located at the Smith Athletic Complex (not the High School). There is no Ladies JV match vs Cameron Yoe.
The next booster club meeting will be on Monday March 17th at 6pm in the EVHS Library. We hope to be done sometime between 7:00 and 7:30pm. Everyone is invited so we hope to see you there!
The EVHS and GHS Soccer Booster Clubs have established the Georgetown Derby.
In soccer a Derby (pronounced Darby) is a match against your crosstown rival. The Derby is between the teams but it is also between each team’s fans. Just as the players attempt to out play their opponents, the fans of each team want to prove they support their team more. This can be done by wearing the same color (red), holding your scarves high (you did buy a scarf, right?), or through a chant (we need somebody to come up with a Patriot chant!).
There will be two matches during the season with each team playing once on their home pitch. The winner of the Derby is determined by the away-goals rule: if the aggregate score of the two games is tied, then the team who scored more goals at their opponent’s stadium is the winner.
At the beginning of the match the team captains will exchange a pennant that commemorates this occasion. Exchanging pennants is a tradition for special matches and is a show of respect and fair play for your opponent. There is some historical significance as well. In the old times wars, surrendering your flag to your opponent meant your surrender. Nowadays the exchange of the pennants of the teams BEFORE the match means that both teams value their opponent’s strength and that the contest has no real meaning other than the pleasure of the sport itself.
These are this year’s pennants which were created for the Booster Clubs by local and long-time GISD Soccer supporters Bell Embroidery.
The teams can hang the pennants in their locker room or trophy case and over the years the collection pennants will become part of the history between the EVHS and GHS soccer programs.
There is also a Georgetown Derby trophy which will be awarded to the current year’s winner. The winning team’s name will be engraved on the trophy and they will take possession of the trophy until next year’s Derby. There will be two trophies one for the Ladies and the other for the Men. Trophies will only be awarded to the Varsity teams.
In future years the trophy will be awarded at the end of the second match. Unfortunately we were unable to establish all the rules for determining the winner in the event of a tie. So for this year the trophy will not be awarded at the end of the second match.
It is the goal of the EVHS and GHS Booster Clubs for the Georgetown Derby to become a tradition that celebrates the efforts of our student athletes and coaches, the support of the fans, the historical connection between our two schools and our shared love of soccer.
